Patagonia – GiveBackFriday: Buy One. Give Back to FoKC.

November 17, 2016 By //  by Nancy Ouimet

On November 25th, Black Friday 2016, Patagonia Calgary | Banff | Victoria will buck the trend of consumption for consumption’s sake by pledging to give 20% of the day’s sales to charity through their signature #GiveBackFriday campaign.
The corporation that operates four Patagonia stores (Calgary and Banff, AB, Victoria, BC and online at patagoniaelements.ca) launched the #GiveBackFriday campaign in 2015 and raised over $6000. Proceeds from 2015’s campaign were donated to Wildsight, a charity based in BC that works to protect wildlife, water and wild spaces in one of the most diverse and beautiful regions in Canada — the Columbia and Southern Rocky Mountains.
This year, dollars raised will be donated to the Canmore, AB based charity, Friends of Kananaskis Country for use in their mountain-specific outdoor education and trail-building programming, as well as the Victoria, BC based Surfrider Foundation Vancouver Island, who as a community of everyday people passionately protect our playground – the ocean, waves, and beaches that provide us so much enjoyment.
Patagonia Calgary | Banff | Victoria is hoping to inspire other businesses to follow their lead and join in the movement of giving back to charity, as opposed to encouraging excessive consumerism on Black Friday. Businesses can get involved and show solidarity with the movement by using the hashtag #GiveBackFriday, and sharing the concept behind the movement with their customers.
