Help Cleanup Dead Man’s Flats!

The 2013 flood left in its wake piles of man-made debris in Dead Man’s Flats. In cooperation with the MD of Bighorn, the Friends of Kananaskis is pleased to announce:

The Great Dead Man’s Flats Cleanup

DMF Junk004On Saturday, August 20, 2016, the Friends is organizing a one-day blitz to pick up the trash along side Pigeon Creek in the hamlet. From pallets to pipe to wire to construction material, we’ll comb the forests beside the creek, collect up and sort the bad stuff, and have it taken all away.

To do this, we’ll need up to 100 volunteers, including Friends members and residents of the Hamlet. This is an opportunity for the Dead Man’s Flats community — including its businesses — to come together and make your home beautiful again.

ThunderstoneBusiness support includes the folks at Thunderstone Quarries, who are paying to have the junk we collect hauled away and disposed of!

How This All Works

DMF Junk002We’ll start at 10 AM, and work in small teams with plenty of trained Friends crew leaders to assist and supervise. You can bring work gloves, but we’ll have a limited supply on site if you forget yours. We’ll supply any needed tools, too, plus any other equipment. We’ll take volunteers as young as 14 (those under 18 require parental supervision). You’ll need to complete a liability waiver. We’re planning some special surprises for the day, so stay tuned to this page for updates as they come.

husky soloWe’re pleased to have the support of the Husky gas station in town; all participants in the clean up will get a coupon good for a free hot dog and a pop that day!

Big Horn MotelIf you’re driving to the event, due to limited parking available in the hamlet, the kind folks at Big Horn Motel are offering the parking lot behind their motel for the day. It’s only 75 m from our work site.

Mad Dog CafeAlso supporting the event is Mad Dog Cafe, a wonderful restaurant in Dead Man’s Flats. Stay tuned for the surprises they’ll be offering!

How To Participate – SIGN UP HERE

Reminder e-mails will be sent out 48 hrs in advance of the event. If there’s any reason we need to postpone, such as the weather looking awful for the 20th, we’ll tell you then. Our “rain delay” date will be August 27th.
