Wind Ridge Trail Maintenance

Wind Ridge Trail work – July 26

Alberta Environment & Parks have been doing some extensive re-routing and bridge building work on the Wind Ridge trail this summer and work is nearing completion! They are looking for help with a few trail stewardship jobs next week, so come on out and lend a hand on one of the Bow Valley’s great hiking trails. There are two types of work for this project:

1) Root clipping to refine some final sections of built trail

Number of people: 5

What to expect: This work would involve root cutting. Alberta Parks will provide all necessary tools to complete the task. It is moderate level of work.

2) Building ~40 metres of new trail

Number of people: 4-5

What to expect: This work would involve building ~40 metres of new of trail. The level of effort will range from moderate to difficult and include hand tool work such as digging a new trail, removing duff and earth with hoes and pulaskis, and shoveling/raking out rutting. Alberta Parks will provide all necessary tools to complete the task. It is moderate level of work. It is strongly recommended that anyone interested in the new trail work wear steel-toed boots with a good lug sole.

Meeting time: 9:00am (9am – 3 pm)

Meeting location: Centennial Ridge Trail parking (just past Banff Mountain Gate Lodge)

What to bring: Come prepared to work all day in an outdoor environment. Dress in layers, bring rain gear, hat, sunglasses & sunscreen, gloves, along with your lunch, water for the day, bear spray, and other personal gear. All of the tools and equipment will be supplied.

Volunteer Agreement Form: All volunteers working on an Alberta Parks project need to fill out this Volunteer Agreement Form.

The form can be filled out once, and remain valid for the entire season by filling out the ‘Termination of Agreement’ section at the bottom of the form and adding date ‘December 31, 2018’. To accelerate the paperwork process, print and fill out this form prior to the work day. Please present your completed form to the AB parks staff member.

Note: Should weather not cooperate and we need to cancel, we will notify you by email around 12pm the day before the event.
