High Rockies Trail — Buller Pass Section
September 27, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Date: Sunday, September 27th
Meeting time: 9:00am (9:00am – 4:00pm)
Meeting location: Buller Mountain/Pond Day Use Area
Trans Canada Hwy (Hwy 1) to Canmore. South on Hwy 742 Spray Lakes – Smith Dorrian Rd to the Buller Mountain and Pond Day Use Area
What to expect: Mostly moderate work along with some light and heavy work. The group will hike in less than 1km to reroute a steep section of the existing Buller Pass Trail just before the first bridge over Buller Creek. The group will complete the hand building of ~100m of new backcountry trail. Once the new trail is complete, the short section of the existing trail it replaces will be decommissioned. Trail decommissioning work involves using hand tools to loosen the compacted old trail tread, placing rocks and logs across the old trail, and other miscellaneous tasks to rehabilitate the old trail. The crew will also work on minor drainage repairs along the existing trail on the way out from the work area.
What to bring: You’ll need to wear hiking boots and bring work gloves (Friends of Kananaskis work gloves will be available), rain gear (hopefully not needed), along with your lunch, water, sunscreen, bug spray, bear spray, and other personal gear. All of the tools and equipment will be supplied.
SIGN UP: HERE (sign up closes at 12pm the day before the event)
Volunteer Agreement Form: All volunteers working on an independent Friends project, such as High Rockies Trail, need to fill out the Friends Liability Waiver. This is different than the Parks Volunteer agreement signed for other projects. The form can be filled out once, and valid for the entire season by filling out the ‘Termination of Agreement’ section at the bottom of the form and adding date ‘December 31, 2015’.
To accelerate the paperwork process, you can print and fill out this form prior to the trail care day. Please present your completed form to the Friends of KC Crew Leader.
Note: Should weather not cooperate and we need to cancel, we will notify you by email around 12pm the day before the event.
