Alpine Club of Canada & Friends of Kananaskis Country – Grassi Lakes clean-up – Saturday, June 15
On June 15, Alpine Club of Canada sections across the country will be participating in the UIAA’s (International Climbing & Mountaineering Federation) Respect the Mountains Initiative.
The Friends of Kananaskis have partnered with the ACC Rocky Mountain Section for an afternoon of local trail and climbing crag clean-up at Grassi Lakes in Canmore. The clean up will be followed by a BBQ social at the Alpine Club of Canada Clubhouse.
Date: Saturday, June 15
Meeting time: 1:00 PM
Meeting location: We’ll meet at the Grassi Lakes interpretive sign/plaque at the Grassi Lakes Trailhead
What to expect: Volunteers will work picking up trash and recyclables on the 2km trail to Grassi Lakes and at the climbing crag at the lakes. The level of work is easy, however the Grassi Lakes trail is steep in areas so a moderate level of fitness as well as appropriate footwear is required.
What to bring: Participants must wear gloves. Garbage bags will be provided, along with gloves if needed (only offered in adult size). As a reminder, wear sturdy footwear and select clothes you do not mind getting dirty, long pants are strongly recommended and bring rain gear. Pack some snacks, water, sunscreen, bug spray, bear spray, and other personal gear.
Volunteer Waiver Form: If you can, print and fill out this Volunteer Waiver. Waivers will also be available on-site.
SIGN UP: All volunteers are asked to sign up via the Alpine Club of Canada’s event page.
