Chester-Sawmill Winter Trails Project
August 30, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
Chester-Sawmill Winter Trail expansion project – August & September
We’re ready to continue working on the new approved winter trails for the Chester-Sawmill Winter Trails System! This is year 3 of a project led by the Friends to re-introduce 12 km of winter trails. The majority of this work will include brushing overgrown ski or forestry roads. The below picture gives you an idea of what the trails look like before and after. We will be working on the red dashed lines in the below map. The 3 km trail within the red circle was completed in 2018.
Dates: August 23-25-27-30 / September 2-6-8-13-14
Meeting time: 9:30am (work day: 9:30am –3:30pm)
Meeting location: Sawmill Day Use
Number of people: 12/day
SIGN UP HERE (after clicking link, scroll down to “Peter Lougheed Provincial Park”)
What to expect: The level of effort will be low-moderate and include brushing a 3 m corridor by pulling and cutting trees and shrubs.
What to bring: You’ll need to wear hiking boots and bring work gloves (Friends of Kananaskis work gloves will be available), rain gear (hopefully not needed), along with your lunch, water, sunscreen, bear spray, and other personal gear. All of the tools and equipment will be supplied.
Volunteer Agreement Form: All volunteers will need to fill out this FKC Volunteer Agreement Form.
The form can be filled out once, and valid for the entire season by filling out the ‘Termination of Agreement’ section at the bottom of the form and adding date ‘December 31, 2019’. To accelerate the paperwork process, print and fill out this form prior to the trail care day. Please present your completed form to the Friends of KC Crew Leader.
Note: Should weather not cooperate and we need to cancel, we will notify you by email around 12pm the day before the event.
How to cancel a sign up: Should you have to cancel, here are the steps:
- Log into the volunteer sign up system
- Go to the tab ‘Assignments’ (3rd tab from left)
