Chester Sawmill

September 16, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

We’re ready to continue working on the approved winter trails for the Chester-Sawmill Winter Trails System! This is year 3 of a project led by the Friends to re-introduce 12+ km of winter trails. The majority of this work will include brushing overgrown ski or forestry roads. The below picture gives you an idea of what the trails look like before and after. We will be working on the #5 and #6 red dashed lines in the below map.

Dates: August 28-29 / September 4-5-11-13-16

Meeting time: 9:30am (work day: 9:30am –3:30pm)

Meeting location: Sawmill Day Use

Number of people: 12/day

What to expect: The level of effort will be low-moderate and include brushing a 2 m corridor cutting trees and shrubs.

What to bring: Come prepared to work all day in an outdoor environment. Dress in layers, bring a backpack and rain gear, hat, sunglasses & sunscreen, supportive footwear (i.e. sturdy hiking boots), work gloves, along with your lunch, snacks, water for the day, bear spray, and any other personal items you may want/need (i.e. medications). All tools will be supplied.

Please ensure you read the points below so we can all be safe while volunteering. Do not register for a trail day if you:

  • Have symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, body aches and pains, sudden loss of taste or smell, or any feeling of illness.
  • Have been in direct contact with anyone with the above symptoms or who has COVID 19 in the past 10 days.
  • Have travelled outside of Canada within the past 14 days
  • If you’ve had COVID 19, but have not had a negative post-infection test.

Each volunteer will be required to bring the following mandatory personal protective equipment:

  • Work gloves
  • Mask (to be worn if <2m proximity to others due to trail work task or interaction with public)
  • Safety glasses
  • Hand sanitizer

Please contact our Coordinator if you have any questions or comments.

Volunteer Agreement Form: You will need to fill out this volunteer agreement waiver prior to working on a trail care event. The form will be valid until March 31, 2021. To accelerate the paperwork process, please visit the link above to fill out this form ASAP prior to the trail day.

Note: Should weather not cooperate and we need to cancel, we will notify you by email around 12pm the day before the event.

Sign up closes at 12pm on the day prior to the event. Limited to 12 volunteers.
